RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT

At the core of Quemix’s R&D lies the development of advanced quantum algorithms designed to unlock the true value of quantum computing. Since its inception, the company has consistently specialized in the field of fault-tolerant quantum computing (FTQC), accumulating essential core patents and know-how—such as ground-state calculation and data readout technologies—that are critical for practical application.

Currently, Quemix is collaborating with major manufacturers in sectors such as automotive, chemicals and materials, and semiconductors on co-creation projects aimed at accelerating and enhancing the precision of material calculations and CAE simulations—processes that often present operational bottlenecks.

FTQC Algorithm Development

Since its establishment in 2019, Quemix has consistently specialized in the research and development of algorithms for fault-tolerant quantum computers (FTQC). The company has accumulated core intellectual property and know-how, including its proprietary "PITE®" algorithm and data readout technologies. Quemix develops practical algorithms that transcend the limitations of conventional high-performance computing (HPC) across diverse simulation fields, such as quantum chemistry calculations and CAE.

Through a partnership with Quantinuum, Quemix is also actively engaged in demonstrating its algorithms on actual quantum computing hardware.

Achieving end-to-end Quantum Supremacy

Quemix is developing technologies to achieve end-to-end quantum supremacy, addressing the bottlenecks that hinder the practical application of quantum computing—specifically, the processes ranging from "data input (encoding)" to "result extraction (readout)." Even the fastest computation loses its advantage if slowed down by input and output operations. By combining its proprietary "PITE®" algorithm with highly efficient readout technologies, Quemix is pursuing a comprehensive quantum solution that vastly outperforms classical computing across every stage of the process, from input and output to the computation itself.

CAE

CAE (such as structural and fluid analysis) involves solving massive systems of linear equations derived from the discretization of governing equations. By leveraging specialized quantum algorithms, quantum computers can dramatically accelerate operations involving these huge matrices as well as nonlinear simulations. This capability is expected to drastically shorten the time required for complex aerodynamic and fluid analyses—such as those involving actual vehicle bodies—from processes that previously demanded vast amounts of time or model simplification to just a few minutes, thereby dramatically accelerating design and development cycles in manufacturing.

Quantum Chemical Calculation

The creation of innovative new materials is an urgent priority for achieving a decarbonized society and developing next-generation energy sources. However, conventional computer-based material calculation simulations are reaching their limits due to constraints in computational capacity and accuracy, which prevent them from fully reproducing the complex behavior of materials. Quemix is leading efforts to apply these materials to development by creating proprietary quantum algorithms designed to enable first-principles electronic structure calculations and molecular dynamics simulations using quantum computers.

New technology developed to exponentially accelerate density functional calculations on quantum computers.

Honda R&D Co., Ltd. × Quemix Inc.

Quemix and Honda R&D have successfully developed the world's first new quantum algorithm that exponentially accelerates DFT calculations using quantum computers. In this initiative, they developed a new quantum algorithm that bypasses the Gram-Schmidt orthogonalization process and established a method to calculate the total DFT energy directly from the sampling results of a Quantum Phase Estimation (QPE) circuit, without the need to read out electron density. This achievement marks the successful creation of the world's first high-speed DFT calculation scheme that does not require the readout of electron density distributions.

Quemix and Nissan Launch Joint R&D on Quantum Computing Software for Aerodynamic Simulation

Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. × Quemix Inc.

Many conventional quantum fluid algorithms assume a closed space defined by simple cubes or regular grids to simplify calculations, making it extremely difficult to incorporate the boundary conditions associated with a vehicle's complex curved surfaces into the quantum computing process (unitary operations). Quemix and Nissan developed a new quantum-classical hybrid algorithm capable of handling complex vehicle shapes, designed for execution on Early Fault-Tolerant Quantum Computers (Early-FTQC). Simulations confirmed that the algorithm could reproduce analysis results obtained via conventional classical computers with high accuracy.

Quemix and Mitsui Kinzoku Develop New Technology for Materials Calculation on Quantum Computers

Mitsui Mining & Smelting Co., Ltd. × Quemix Inc.

The newly developed technology, "QAVG" (QPE Averaged over Variable Grids), is an improvement upon Quantum Phase Estimation (QPE)—a core technique for materials calculations using quantum computers. Conventional QPE faced the challenge that increasing energy resolution led to a rise in the number of gate operations and computational costs. QAVG enables high-precision, high-speed DMFT calculations on quantum computers while curbing the increase in computational costs.

Extending molecular dynamics simulations that support materials development and drug discovery to quantum computing platforms.

DENSO Corporation x Quemix Inc.

Quemix Inc. and DENSO Corporation have jointly developed foundational technology for performing molecular dynamics (MD) simulations on quantum computers. In this initiative, the two companies devised a "quantum-classical hybrid MD framework"—combining quantum and classical computing—and successfully predicted chemical states with high accuracy and low computational cost. This method paves the way for advanced quantum computing applications in fields requiring precise atomic-level analysis and functionality prediction, such as next-generation battery materials, polymer materials, catalysts, and drug discovery.
