Research on X-ray absorption spectrum (XAS) calculations using quantum computers has been published in Physical Review Applied, a journal of the American Physical Society.

Quemix conducted this research in collaboration with Honda R&D Co., Ltd. to implement and validate a method for calculating X-ray absorption spectra using logical quantum phase estimation (logical QPE). The results were also presented at Q2B Tokyo 2025.

The study calculated the Fe L₂,₃ edge of FePO₄ using a noiseless simulator and compared three types of input states: uniform superposition states, optimized entangled states, and Slater determinant states. The results confirmed that Lorentzian broadening can effectively suppress statistical errors arising from measurement.

Furthermore, QPE was implemented on a trapped-ion quantum computer using dynamic circuits together with the [[k+2,k,2]] quantum error detection (QED) code. This approach reduced the number of ancilla qubits while mitigating hardware noise, achieving results close to the ideal spectrum.
