Quemix Inc. (Head Office: Chuo-ku, Tokyo; President and CEO: Yu-ichiro Matsushita; hereinafter "Quemix"), a company engaged in the research and development of quantum computing algorithms and software, is pleased to announce that it entered into a capital and business alliance with Mitsui Kinzoku Company Limited (Head Office: Shinagawa-ku, Tokyo; President and Representative Director, Seiji Ikenobu; hereinafter "Mitsui Kinzoku") on July 17, 2026. The alliance aims to accelerate research and development toward the real-world adoption of quantum computing, which is expected to achieve practical applications in the future, and to help address societal challenges through materials development.
Background of the Alliance
Conventional materials development requires extensive trial and error to identify new high-performance materials, resulting in significant time and cost. To address this challenge, companies are advancing materials digital transformation (Material DX), which uses computer simulations to improve the efficiency of materials development. Quantum computing is attracting considerable attention as a next-generation technology capable of delivering both greater analytical accuracy and shorter computation times.
Quemix and Mitsui Kinzoku have been conducting joint research on practical materials simulation using quantum computers and announced the results on June 1, 2026. This groundbreaking achievement is expected to extend beyond the development of any specific material, with broad applications and significant potential impact across the entire field of computational materials science.
Building on this achievement, the two companies agreed to establish a stronger framework for continuing their efforts toward the practical application of quantum chemistry calculations and entered into a business alliance. In conjunction with the alliance, Mitsui Kinzoku has acquired an equity stake in Quemix through its corporate venture capital fund by subscribing to a third-party allotment of new shares.
